Gabions

Gabion installation
LRK Geovision Gabions are factory assembled gabion boxes manufactured from hexagonally woven double twisted steel wire mesh with Zinc and PVC coating, which are supplied in a collapsed form. The gabions are available in a range of sizes. The larger size gabions are partitioned into cells of equal sizes with internal diaphragms to minimize the internal movement of stones and to enhance stability. The gabions are filled with durable stone to form flexible, permeable, and monolithic structures for the construction of retaining walls, and small hydraulic structures for erosion and scour protection. We also provide Gabion Mattresses for erosion control and scour protection and Gabion netting for rock fall protection.

Gabion Applications

Employed as a noise barrier
Used as temporary floodwalls
Gravity and reinforced soil retaining walls
Bed and Bank protection for rivers, streams, and canals
Scour protection of bridge piers and abutments, river training
Construction of weirs, spillways, drop structures, culverts, and river crossing

Advantages of Gabions

Durability
Flexibility
Permeability
Strength
Economical
Environmental Friendly
Durability – Gabions have high resistance to atmospheric corrosion because of the zinc coating on the wire and their ability to support vegetation growth.
Flexibility – This permits the gabion to settle and deform without failure and loss of efficiency. Specifically, when unstable ground and moving water are encountered.
Permeability – It provides automatic and easy drainage which eliminates the need for the installation of drainage pipes.
Strength – The strength of the Gabions is satisfactory enough that it is capable of resisting flood force, torrential force, and ice and earth pressure.
Economical – It is more economical in terms of both material and labor in comparison with other gabion alternatives.
Environmental friendly – Recycled materials can be placed into the gabion cage. The gaps in the soil between the filling materials allow the plantation to grow over time.

FAQ's

Gabions are used in Soil Retaining walls, Garden walls, Erosion control, Garden planters and furniture, Fences, Noise control walls, and more.
Gabions are supplied as flat pack kit sets, that you can fill with rocks and assemble. Usually, you will not need a concrete foundation for gabions. They can be assembled quickly and easily. First, you need to layout a site and provide a firm and level base. Finally, you need to fill the gabions with rocks or other similar materials and assesble them.
Gabions do not require skilled labor to assemble and can be filled with local rocks as long as the rock is hard, heavy, durable, and free draining. Also, a cheap rock can be used in the middle of the gabions.
Gabions are designed to be used as permanent structures but their longevity is directly related to the environment in which they are installed. This means that the life expectancy of gabion walls can be anywhere from 10 to 75 years depending on the installation environment. Usually, in most non-marine environments, PVC-coated gabions will last for over 50 years.
